Getting Stock and Options Alerts on WhatsApp
Published Oct 26, 2026
Push notifications are easy to miss among everything else on a phone, and some people simply read WhatsApp more reliably. OpScout can send your alerts there as well, or instead. This article explains how it works, what you receive, and the limits that apply.
What you can receive
Any OpScout alert can be sent to WhatsApp: a stock reaching your price or market cap level, a call or put meeting your Covered Call or Cash-Secured Put rules, or a Target Entry Monitor finding a way into a stock at your price. The message is a service message about your OpScout account and your own alerts. It is never a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, write or exercise anything.
Setting it up
- Sign in to OpScout.
- Link and verify the WhatsApp number you want to use.
- Choose WhatsApp as a delivery channel when you create or edit an alert.
- Save the alert.
Linking a number does not turn WhatsApp on for every alert: you choose the channels alert by alert, so an alert can go to push only, to WhatsApp only, or to both. You can change an alert's channels, or unlink your WhatsApp number, at any time in the app. How WhatsApp alerts work.
When messages arrive
An alert can only be as timely as the check behind it, and the message comes after that:
- OpScout checks your Monitors in cycles about every 15 minutes during the U.S. regular trading session. Nothing is checked outside the session, so no alerts are produced in pre-market, after-hours or overnight trading.
- A Notification is sent after its Alert is recorded. If an attempt fails, it may be retried over a period of hours, and it may still fail.
- So a message about an Alert recorded during the session can arrive after the session has closed. Delivery time also depends on the network and your device. When Monitors are evaluated.
If timing matters to you, it is worth keeping push notifications on as well.
Limits
WhatsApp messages are limited per account:
- Monthly allowance: up to 300 WhatsApp messages a month. The month starts on the day your subscription period starts, or on the first day of the calendar month (UTC) without a subscription.
- Weekly plan: up to 30 WhatsApp messages for each paid week instead.
- When an allowance is used up, OpScout stops sending WhatsApp messages until the next period and records those deliveries as failed. Settings shows how much of the allowance is used.
There is also an hourly safeguard on every channel: if 30 Alerts are queued for your account within 60 minutes, the 30th Notification says that your Alerts are now paused, and nothing more is sent, on any channel, push included, until you resume them in the app. Alerts are still recorded while a limit is reached or Notifications are paused. Notification limits.
A Repeat Monitor whose condition stays met can notify you once per interval, so a short interval on many Monitors uses the allowance quickly. A longer interval, or Once, keeps the count down.
When a message does not arrive
If you expected a WhatsApp message and none came, these are the usual reasons, roughly in the order worth checking:
- The alert does not use WhatsApp. Channels are chosen alert by alert; open the alert in the app and look at its delivery channels.
- The condition was not met at a check. A level reached only between two checks, or only outside the regular session, does not produce an Alert. The Monitor's history in the app shows whether an Alert was recorded.
- The allowance is used up, or your Notifications are paused after a burst of Alerts. Settings shows both, and the app lists the Monitors that fired before a pause.
- The number is no longer linked or verified, for example after a change of phone number.
- Delivery is still being retried. A message can arrive hours after the Alert, or not at all.
If none of these explains it, email support@opscout.us with enough detail to identify the alert, and never include a password or a sign-in code. Support.
